Kaya Keystone

Kaya and his twin sister, Kimber, grow up in a twisted pseudo-Mormon (or post-Mormon?) cult. It's run by some evil man claiming to be close to God so that he can control people...and abuse women. There are other men in the cult too but they're just extra ego-boosts and additional people under his influence. The cult leader touts himself as basically a new Jesus "because too many false / unfaithful people were claiming the love of Christ" and "God spoke to him and decreed he find the truly faithful to follow The New Son," etc, etc. He's the only one in his cult allowed to wear a crucifix because he proclaims to now be “the only way” to Jesus/God, and took to holding up his necklace whilst saying things like “...One day they may come for me, too, but I trust in you to not betray me; for you are faithful and you will protect your Lord, your way to the light,” and similar. He has people under his thumb. It's sick.

Kaya and Kimber's mom dies when they’re <10 from an entirely treatable thing, but within the confines of the cult, there's No Outside Medical Service Allowed, Only Prayer. So they lose their mom and the pair of them grow up communally raised in a cult until some word gets out to law enforcement about something. Maybe sexual abuse or just tax fraud, but whatever it was, the feds are gonna come down hard on the guy, he's pretty sure, and he's not going without a blaze of glory. So he gathers all his followers into the basement, states “God has commanded me do this to save you all,” and just starts executing people. Some of them cry, some of the women still have quaaludes in their system and aren’t entirely present, some of The Faithful are like, “guess God commanded it” and die with their chins up. One of the women is cowering trying to protect her infant, but that of course isn't flying. And so it goes, until the guy gets to Kimber. Kaya breaks, there, when it's his sister in front of the gun, and even though he’s just thirteen or fourteen he charges the guy and (thanks to the element of surprise and hysterical strength) manages to wrestle the gun away from him—and kills him. And takes his crucifix. Because fuck you.

Kaya fortunately manages to grow up much more well-adjusted than one would expect...Thanks to the fact that he and Kimber end up being fostered, and then adopted, by Anarchy and Chey.
